4/12/2009 6:09:34 PM

The 2009 Miss Connecticut contestants recently visited Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford to meet with Scott Organek, Corporate Relations Officer
for the CCMC Foundation.  They discussed Miss America's partnership with the Childrens Miracle Network, had a tour of the hospital, and learned how their fundraising efforts benefit the treatment and quality of life of the children who are treated there.

Ashley competed in Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit and Eveningwear today. She looked spectacular and although she did not win Swimsuit we and the people around us all felt that she should have.

Ashley looked beautiful! She floated across the stage with charm and grace. Elegant. We were joined by more family and friends at visitation. Connecticut's Outstanding Teen Rachael Ramonas and her mother Denise flew in today. She's thankful for all the cards, calls and text messages she has received from back home.

Day one of Preliminary Competition

Ashley sends greetings to her friends back in Connecticut. Yesterday was her Private Interview with the Judges and she felt that all the preparation she received backhome prepared her for it. She felt calm, relaxed and at ease with the judges and left the room feeling she left them with a good impression.

52 Contestants Begin Their Weekend

With Pancakes and Serenades

Contestants Start Their Day Off By Raising Awareness for National Pancake Day

As they gear up for 2009 Miss America Pageant on TLC January 24, the 52 contestants armed with forks and spatulas and donning aprons and their state sashes, gathered in Las Vegas for a pancake breakfast in honor of Children's Miracle Network.

Contestants hoped to raise awareness about IHOP's National Pancake Day celebration, a nationwide fundraising effort that aims to raise $1 million for Children's Miracle Network programs at children's hospitals and other local charities throughout the United States.

IHOP's fourth National Pancake Day celebration benefiting Children's Miracle Network is set to take place February 24, 2009, when nearly 1,400 IHOP restaurants nationwide will offer guests a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Children's Miracle Network and other local charities.  With a goal to raise more than $1 million, funds will benefit children's hospitals throughout the U.S.

With the title of Miss America 2009 on the line, all 52 contestants took time out of their busy schedules to relax and enjoy a special performance by the enchanting entertainment experience, The Living Garden. The contestants were mesmerized by the elegant transformation from statue to living fountain in this unique performance that takes place at The Palazzo waterfall inside the atrium area.

Following the awe inspiring attraction, the contestants floated down the Grand Canal at The Venetian in an authentic gondola ride as they were serenaded by singing gondoliers.

Miss Connecticut visits Extreme Home Makeover
12/10/2008 5:33:16 PM
Miss Connecticut 2008 Ashley Glenn was invited to work in the Home Show tent by Matt Ostrowski from Creative Enclosures.  There she greeted spectators as they were bussed in and helped collect donations for the Girard family.  She met Bruce "Bruno" Hayn, who is the man in charge of the build and he gave her a personal tour of the interior of the home under construction.  She also had the opportunity to meet with some cast members from the show and got an inside look at how things are progressing.  Ashley had the opportunity to watch the action unfold all day; it was a very special day (and very cold).

CROMWELL -- If you weren't too sure of it before, you certainly left the Miss Connecticut Christmas party on Sunday knowing one thing: Theresa "Tess" Beauchamp was royalty.
Our beloved "Tess the Contessa" figuratively carried the Miss America crown on her head, daily living the four points of service, scholarship, style and success, before she was taken away from us on Oct. 2.
There was not a dry eye in the house when photographs of her life flashed before us during a Power Point presentation. Scenes of her years of friendship and service in the pageant program, and from her joyful family life were shown. Members of her family, including husband Bernard Beauchamp, son Jeff Beauchamp, daughter Shelley Yerger and grandchildren, sat at the table of honor during the party. We all joined in song to wish Bernie a "Happy Birthday."
Miss Connecticut Executive Director Luis Pabon also organized a floor show that highlighted the types of talent Tess loved -- ballet, tap and song. Emceed by Miss Connecticut Ashley Glenn, the show began with Miss Connecticut 1996 Stacy Perrone-Petta singing one of the Contessa's favorites, "And This is My Beloved." Next to perform a ballet was Acacia Courtney, first runner-up to Connecticut's Outstanding Teen. Her hometown favorite, Miss Connecticut 2007 Dana Daunis, showed off her pipes. Miss Connecticut's Outstanding Teen Rachael Ramonas, Miss New London County Kara Prete and Outstanding Teen semi-finalist Nancy Rivera also danced.
The Miss Connecticut organization also will be naming an outstanding volunteer in honor of Tess at the state pageant in June. The nominees for award were brought forward: Lorraine Buonocore, Tracy Forbes, Nancy and Roger Picard, Bill and Sue Forte, Linda Marino and the late Theodora "Teddi" Howell.
Thirty-five others also were called to the front of their room for their help with the pageant, and along with the above-mentioned group, all received volunteer pins in the shape of the state from Rachael and Ashley.

Local Volunteers receive recognition at holiday party- Miss CT Board of Directors and ED Committee

First in the life of Tess was service. Service to her family, her community, her church, the pageant and many other organizations. As the script of our presentation pointed out, Tess was not someone you said no to. That was how it was at home, with the pageant or when she was working on projects for some of her other philanthropic concerns, from St. Mary's Hospital, to the Torrington Symphony to the Watertown Town Hall restoration project to the local day care of which she was a board member.
Tess ended up leading every organization she ever joined, and she worked h
er magic with a wink and a bat of the eye.
That was part of the secret to her success.
Tess was driven to make Miss Connecticut scholarships increase on a yearly
basis. Her goal was for Miss Connecticut to receive $10,000, a goal she achieved in 2003 when she was named to the Miss America Academy of Honor and took home a scholarship in that amount. Tess, who was known nationwide because of her annual attendance at Miss America and because she had taken great pleasure in judging many states, had the idea that, on its 75th anniversary, Connecticut could take home the award. So, Tess jotted down a few ideas as to why she should win the award, and instructed her assistant, Ann DeMatteo, to expertly craft a letter of recommendation. To their surprise, Tess came home with the award that year.
And who had more style than Tess? A former kindergarten teacher who trained youngsters for success, and a former dress shop owner who influenced
customers and later was a mentor to our current wardrobe sponsor, Ragtime Boutique owner Natalie Testa, Tess had it all.
We in the Miss Connecticut family sorely miss our Contessa, our shining star, now looking down upon us as we carry out her work.

So How is Ashley Doing?
9/29/2008 5:37:59 PM
Ashley GlennJust hung up the phone after talking with our Miss Connecticut. Ashley loves LA!!! And sends big hellos to all our pageant family members, especially her sister queen Corrina and a big hug and smile to Peggy.

Let me summarize our conversation: She flew out to LA and her seatmate was Miss Massachusetts, they were excited they got to fly over the Grand Canyon. Met Ellen DeGeneres and stood a foot away from Mario Lopez. (Yes, she said he’s cute!) The staff of Miss America treats them with class and style; they even travel in luxury motor coaches to appearances.

When I asked where she was staying, she rapidly replied she couldn’t discuss it and we would have to wait for the Reality Check show to air in January. She said they were eating well, maybe to well!

She also mentioned that Miss Oklahoma told her that she lost a spelling bee because she couldn’t spell “Connecticut” and had lunch with Miss America and discovered they had a lot in common.
She wished she could tell us more, but she signed a contract agreeing not to talk about the filming. Once again reminding me that we’d have to wait for the airing of the show on TLC in January.

Before hanging up, she wanted me to thank everyone and especially the board for all their great support. I’ll keep you informed as we hear from her again.
